Read this piece from Newsweek comparing the Ford administration to the George W. Bush administration. Note that its comparison of the two administrations consists solely of parallels between the Ford administration (as some see it) and Bush’s candidacy in 2000. Also note that it does not reference any actions or statements by Bush or Cheney or other surrogates after winter of 2001. Sure it mentions some staffers in passing and the threat of Islamists, but nothing substantive in this piece refers to concrete actions of the Bush administration that undermine the comparison to Ford with even the most cursory glance. Even Iraq is treated in a throw-away line.
My question is this: Did Newsweek write a Ford/Bush comparison piece as fodder for the day he died in early 2001? Is this Newsweek’s version of the Dana Carvey as Tom Brokaw SNL sketch pre-recording various ledes for Gerald Ford’s death?
