Mulligan of Bring It On! has posted the names of every US soldier who has died in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are 2,738 American names - almost 300 are from this year alone.
I find it hard to look at this painfully long wall of names and see the similarities between this memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial. The difference here is that the physical presence of a wall is felt not in the black of the stone, but in the black of the text standing out on a clear white background. There are so many names that they blur solid as you scroll down the page.
I hope the list does not continue to grow at such a tragically fast rate. It breaks my heart to know that this list will be longer next year.
God rest their souls and keep their families safe. Let us never forget the sacrifices they have made for our country, as we try to bring this war to an end to prevent the further loss of life.
NB - In the comments of Mulligan’s post, The Cranky Brit has posted a link to the list of British troops who have died in Iraq.
