Congratulations to Murphy who had his stiches and lampshade/cone removed this morning. He adapted well to the contraption and healed well despite the horrific stitching job. He was wet, scared, and unhappy upon arriving at the vet.
The cone is gone and Murphy is happy now:

I just left a very joyous puppy home. He’s been under a strict cone-induced curfew for two weeks and weathered massively limitations on his mobility. He picked up a few tricks with the cone, like learning how to flip toys up in the air to himself with the lip of the cone and bowling me over using the cone as a cudgel when I was sitting on the couch.
It’ll be nice to have a small, managable disaster of a dog again.
