Cindy Sheehan arrested. Shenanigans suspected. More info to follow…
February 1st, 2006 at 2:05 am
CNN sez she tried to unfurl a banner (in violation of house rules) and was detained for “an hour” ie until the end of the speech.
As a professional activist, I find it kinda hard to believe that she unfurled a banner BEFORE the speech started. Kinda blew the whole purpose of the banner
February 1st, 2006 at 2:06 am
I’m ready!
2 beers, half a pizza, and a sleepy puppy.
I hope the speech is long, cause I have 5 more 16oz Buds to drunk, er, drink.
February 1st, 2006 at 2:07 am
On the up side, Alito’s going to get hazed by Breyer and the libs for the indefinite future. So I’ve got that going for me, which is nice…

Does “marginalized” mean the same thing as “making terrorism a nuisance”? Bush is taking Kerry’s crib sheet. Sounds awfully pre-9/11 to me (harumph harumph)
February 1st, 2006 at 2:25 am
Isn’t a DC politician in DC? Is he not going to making decisions about troop levels? Two hats, buddy, President and Commander in Chief.

However, it is the only option when no input is allowed. See: percentage of Democratic bills and amendments that passed under Bush (I think it’s 14%).
THANK YOU TIVO.

responsible criticism vs. defeatism?
How bout blind fealty towards undefined victory as the only result? Where does that fit in? Because there’s another, rightward side to responsible criticism if you recognize “defeatism” as the worst example of the leftward side. While some like Cindi Sheehan may speak with voices that sometimes come across as defeatist, a far great proportion of the Republican Party - including the President himself - speaks as if the only possible evaluation of the war is never ending steps forward with no obstacles. I think Bush’s rose colored glasses are far more damaging than those people who see Iraq with ultra-realistic vision.
Uhoh, Bush is quoting another dead soldier’s letter. Last time he did it, there’d been a whole lot of editing to his letter pre-speech. I can’t remember the name of the soldier, but he had definitely described the war as a complete waste of his life and his fallen comrades. I hope for his family’s sake that this young man really supported the president.
ps–i’m having trouble with haloscan. so i’m gonna do longer posts and lag slightly for now.

February 1st, 2006 at 2:50 am
Anyone else picking up on Bush’s drawn out R’s and N’s? Is he slurring? Is he drunk? or just over emphasizing his words? I really don’t remember him sounding so deliberate in the past…
Oh yeah, another bash the lawyers for getting money for victims of botched surgeries…it only sounds good when you don’t look at the numbers. more villifying the only people who will help you if something goes horribly wrong in your life and a corporation or doctor is responsible. i’m all for reasonable law suits, but you can’t get there by capping shit. look at edwards victories, his biggest suits are for victims with hundreds of thousands of medical bills per year, every year for the remainder of their lives…where’s the compassion now?
February 1st, 2006 at 2:50 am

February 1st, 2006 at 2:52 am
There is no way he follows up on this shit.
February 1st, 2006 at 2:53 am
I’m just waiting for Bush to suggest a project to harness the power of perpetual motion…from mars…led by American factory workers. The most far reaching, physically unachievable proposal in the history of politics.
i mean, american workers could do it if it wasn’t on mars or against the laws of physics, but we’d probably do it slower than the indians, irish, or chinese…
hey, someone pass me a ladder, this joke is getting me fairly deep underground.

Make it up in the state of the union.
HIV & AIDS, on the other hand, fuck you got me. Maybe that human-animal freak is still at 7-11 with those condoms…
February 1st, 2006 at 3:02 am
Because AID’s testing should be conducted by church’s. Makes sense to me.
