Seems like a calm, collected and down-the-line conservative to me. His opposition to Roe v. Wade should be particularly noted, though I sincerely doubt that it will be overturned. He has been on the losing side of a number of 5-4 SCOTUS decisions, so his vote could easily end up being a deciding factor.
Initial impression: […]

Earlier today the Washington Post had a breakdown of the 5th Circuit as a possible source for Bush’s nominee. There wasn’t much on Clement, but this:
The five judges will face varying degrees of opposition. Democrats say two, Jones and Garza, are unacceptable because the judges have denounced Roe v. Wade , the 1973 decision establishing […]

Edith Clement is rumored to be Bush’s nominee for the Supreme Court tonight. CNN.com has this to say about her:
Clement is a judge on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals based in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was nominated to the court by President Bush in September 2001 and confirmed by the Senate two […]

Governor George Pataki is now galavanting in Iowa, probing out the state to see if anyone there would buy into his northern moderate brand of the GOP. Sure he supports abortion rights and gun control, but he’s also bald which seems to go far (it’s all I can tell is keeping Karl Rove in his […]

“I want to put to rest the speculation and […]

My new favorite website is the White House Press Briefing Room. The questions from Wednesday are fantastic!
Q Even if it wasn’t a crime? You know, there are those who believe that even if Karl Rove was trying to debunk bogus information, as Ken Mehlman suggested yesterday — perhaps speaking […]

We have about eighty thousand less troops on reserve (National Guard and Reservists) available than two years ago and the military is continuing to scale back on the number […]

Some stories that merit attention…
The account of the downed Navy helicopter in Afghanistan is truly incredible. These soldiers are true heroes and it is a tragedy that the nation is paying so little attention to the dangerous work they are doing. We are a nation at war, yet rather than talking about the sacrifices that […]
